European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

ECDL is an internationally recognised 8 module qualification demonstrating competence in computer skills aimed at improving career prospects or to help in existing employment. ECDL is rapidly becoming a standard requirement of many employers including the NHS.

The ECDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society.

Teaching Methods

You do not need any prior computer knowledge as we can start teaching you from any level.

Our courses are run by Open Learning where you work at your own pace from a book or via computer based learning. There is no pressure to keep up with (or be held back by) others and there is support and advice from our fully trained tutors.

Each module has its own 45 minute exam.

ECDL Modules

ECDL Essentials:

  • ECDL Module 1, Concepts of Information Technology
  • ECDL Module 2, Using the Computer and Managing Files
  • ECDL Module 7, Information and Communication

Once you have completed ECDL Essentials, you can start working on ECDL Extras:

  • ECDL Module 3, Word Processing
  • ECDL Module 4, Spreadsheets
  • ECDL Module 5, Databases
  • ECDL Module 6, Presentations
  • ECDL Module 8, Using IT
